Chips. If I had to pick one of my healthy eating downfalls it would probably be chips. Coming in a close second would be alcohol consumed on the weekends. I am great during the week, but do love some weekend day drinking on occasion. Anyways, chips might be my favorite snack food.

I am addicted to crunchy foods. They pair so perfectly with dips, salsas, and spreads, which I also love. Living in Austin you can go just about anywhere and get some kind of chip and dip. Queso and guac anyone? And now that summer is creeping in, they will definitely be making an appearance at parties and BBQs.

Once those chips are in front of me and I try one, it is hard to stop. I have been trying to be really good about it lately. Only having a handful at restaurants or subbing cut up veggies when at home. But sometimes a sliced cucumber is not the best vehicle for freshly made mango cucumber salsa.

Even though the best and cleanest tortilla chips are made with just a few ingredients of corn, salt, and oil, they pack on the calories and fat. The oil is usually not the best either. A serving size is usually less than 10 chips and the fat is around 7 grams. Speaking for myself, and hopefully a lot of others, it is hard to just eat 10 chips! That is where these semi-homemade chips come in!

Baking a corn tortilla yields the exact same crunchy texture you are looking for to scoop up all the guac. Look for corn tortillas that the only ingredients are corn, salt, and lime. The high heat of the oven transforms them to crunchy chips without the excess oil, fat, and calories. Not to mention, corn tortillas are a hell of a lot cheaper than a bag of chips.

I added some classic Mexican seasonings to take up the flavor a notch. I’m always looking for a reason to add some spice. Give these super simple baked semi-homemade seasoned tortillas chips a try and load up on all the guac and salsa. Well, I’m not saying eat all the chips, but you can certainly eat more than usual and not feel as guilty 😉

  1. So made these today for my restaurant and we sticking to this recipe. Homemade chips is on our menu now thanks for the delicious recipe.

Note: I cut them into four sections then deep fry for only like 10 to 15 secs then sprinkled the seasoning on and they are fantastic.

  2. Can you make homemade tortilla chips out of flavored wraps like sun baked tomato or guacamole wraps?
