If you have followed ETG for some time, you know food usually revolves around sauces. Whether on burgers, in stir-fries, or just an easy dressing – I absolutely love sauces. This creamy avocado sauce is so delicious and so versatile!

To make it, I blended avocados with some of my favorite ingredients. With the addition of cilantro, coconut milk (for extra creaminess), lime juice, garlic, red pepper flakes, and some salt and pepper, it’s rich and creamy, tangy, and has a little spice to it.

On top of that, this avocado cream sauce can go with just about anything you plan on eating! Whether it be tacos, with some chicken or salmon, taquitos, pasta, or just with chips and salsa. I’ve been adding it to my eggs in the morning, as a spread on sandwiches, and on whatever else I am eating.

Plus, avocados make a great addition to any diet as they are also loaded with healthy fats to help fill you up and keep you full. Along with those healthy fats come fiber, folate, vitamins A & K, and potassium!

If you have ever saved a cut avocado before, you know they get brown. While this sauce does turn a little brown after a few days, it still tastes great.

Why we love this creamy avocado sauce

  • easy to make and ready in 5 minutes
  • calls for only 6 simple ingredients
  • super versatile – just it on tacos, in burritos, as a dip with chips, with eggs, or even with pasta!
  • a fun way to change up your typical guacamole

Ingredients

  • ripe avocados
  • lite coconut milk – for extra creaminess
  • fresh lime juice – for some tang
  • fresh cilantro
  • garlic
  • red pepper flakes – for a bit of spice

How to make avocado sauce

  1. Make your avocado sauce. Place all ingredients into a Vitamix, high-powered blender, or food processor. You can also place all the ingredients in a wide-mouth jar and use an immersion blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, about 30 seconds.
  2. Enjoy! Use it as a dip, a sauce, spread, or however you please!

How to keep avocado sauce from turning brown

To keep the avocado sauce from turning brown, make sure to store it in an air-tight container in the fridge. For extra protection from the air, you can put a thin layer of plastic wrap on top of it in your dish. The sauce will get a little brown the longer it sits (especially the part exposed to the air), but it won’t affect the flavor.

How to use creamy avocado lime sauce

This avocado sauce recipe is super versatile. Here are a few ways to use it:

  • on top of any meat – chicken, turkey, or pork
  • with seafood – would be great with salmon or shrimp
  • in tacos or burritos
  • with nachos or quesadillas
  • as a dip – perfect for chips, veggies, or taquitos!
  • as a sauce for pasta – it’s perfect with any kind of pasta, and I love adding some protein and vegetables mixed in for a complete dish. A nice change-up from your typical red sauce.
  • as a salad dressing for a salad or grain/power bowl – I suggest thinning out the sauce a little (you can just use a little water) if using it as a dressing.
  • with eggs for breakfast
  • as a spread on sandwiches

Storage

  • fridge –  store in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. I love these weck jars to keep it fresh.
  • freezer – while you can freeze avocado sauce, I would not recommend it as the texture and consistency will change.

Substitutions and additions

  • lite coconut milk – greek yogurt or sour cream will work instead of coconut milk. The recipe will no longer be dairy-free with these. The flavor will also change some.
  • lime juice – lemon juice will work instead of lime.
  • cilantro – if you don’t like cilantro, another fresh herb will work. Parsley or dill would be delicious.
  • fresh garlic – garlic powder will work if you don’t have fresh. Use 1 teaspoon.
  • red pepper flakes – leave it out if you don’t like spice.

And here are some additions to change up the flavor:

  • sweetener – add a little honey to give it a little sweetness
  • jalapeno – if you want it a little more spicy, add some fresh jalapeno
  • spices – a little onion powder, cumin, chili powder, or paprika would be great additions!
