There’s no better way to kick off the month of August and the dead of summer (at least here in Austin) than with a milkshake! A cinnamon tahini milkshake no doubt!

And to celebrate my sister’s birthday tomorrow, I figured a milkshake would be a great way to go. I mean she used to work at an ice cream shop so it’s pretty much the perfect fit. Growing up, I used to visit her and make her whip me up something delicious all the time, so it’s my turn to return the favor.

Also, she is in town visiting, so we literally got to enjoy this tahini shake together! Yippee!

I was introduced to tahini when I first got into paleo, around 2014. I didn’t like it at all. Turns out the brand I tried was not that good. Then, Soom entered my life. I kid you not, it is a life changing tahini. If you are looking to try it, use this link to save 10%.

If you aren’t familiar with tahini, it is made from ground up sesame seeds. It is most commonly used in Eastern Mediterranean cuisines and it’s a main ingredient in hummus. The consistency is like peanut butter, so it has a very nutty taste.

Soom’s tahini is the best I’ve ever tried – it’s rich and creamy, perfectly smooth, and nutty. Most importantly, it’s not bitter like some of the other brands I’ve tried. So, if your tahini is bitter, it’s no good. Bonus is the company is a women owned small business out of Philadelphia.

Now, I use tahini in just about anything – from sauces, in sweet potatoes, and coating veggies to roast. But, this milkshake might be my favorite to date. It’s thick and creamy, sweet and nutty, and absolutely delicious. Also, the cinnamon gives it a little kick while balancing out the vanilla and you still get all the nuttiness from the tahini. It seriously makes the most perfect easy dessert.

Tahini Milkshake Recipe

Making milkshakes at home is so dang easy. And I love knowing exactly what is in them. We are using a coconut milk based ice cream (NadaMoo! is my favorite) to keep these dairy free, but you can use any kind you like. Here is what you need:

  • vanilla ice cream (dairy or non dairy)
  • almond milk, or any non dairy milk
  • tahini – I used Soom
  • cinnamon
  • vanilla extract

Blender full of vanilla ice cream, almond milk, tahini, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.

Then, simply place all the ingredients into a blender (I love my Vitamix) and blend it up until smooth! Depending on the consistency you like, you can either add more liquid for a thinner consistency or less liquid for a thicker consistency. At first, start off with just 1/4 cup and then add more if you like. Personally, I like a thicker consistency, so there isn’t that much liquid in this tahini shake.

Once it is all blended, I finished it off by topping it with some more cinnamon (I can never get enough) and some sesame seeds. This tahini milkshake recipe makes one large serving or 2 small servings. So, it’s up to you on how much you want to enjoy!

Tahini Milkshake Add-ins

Here are a few things that would be delicious to add into your milkshakes!

  • chocolate chips
  • vanilla beans
  • different spices – nutmeg, allspice, ginger
  • chocolate tahini – go crazy and use chocolate tahini instead of regular!

Finally, just put all the ingredients with your ice cream and blend away!
